Past Projects

The Water Research Institute was an early pioneer and resource for Flowforms in North America. A “flowform” is a vessel, whose proportions are such that water is brought into a vortical flow that describes a figure eight, with a lobe in each cavity. The frequency of the rhythms varies with the size of the flowform, while the character of the movement depends on its shape. Behind the visible reciprocating movement, longer-term rhythms can exist. Used in educational settings, in gardens to enhance landscapes and in ponds for water rehabilitation, Flowforms have enlivened the areas in which they have been placed.

WRI has worked with environmental firms and municipalities to promote ecologically sound methods of wastewater and sludge treatment. Working with Reed Systems, Inc. the concepts have been taken from the laboratory to successful field applications in over 100 municipal, EPA and state regulatory approved reed bed installations in over twenty states. This represents over two million square feet of constructed wetland beds.
Research experiments have been conducted in conjunction with the Institut für Strömungswissenschaften to determine cosmological influences on water at particular times. WRI has also engaged in studies of spring waters to check on-going quality as well as the effect of bottling methods and materials.
